Jack Mitchell loved sports. While golf was his favorite sport, in his younger days he played them all.
Jack, the husband of Jan MItchell, was always very supportive of the time she devoted to the organization, and appreciated how valuable the scholarships were to the young women who competed each year. He died on March 30th, 2023 and last year the first scholarship was awarded. Jack would be thrilled to continue to have a Women In Sports Visionary Scholarship Award named in his honor. |
This scholarship fund is set up to honor the memory of Patti Stapp, former Miss Amarillo Director. Patti was the director of Miss Amarillo Area for 15 years, and guided many of her contestants to enviable positions at Miss Texas, ranging from Top 10 and Top 5 spots to Preliminary Talent and Swimsuit winners. Under Patti's direction and mentorship, Arian Archer and Sunni Cranfill won the title of Miss Texas and placed in the Top 10 at Miss America. Patti believed in Community Service, and instilled this in her contestants and those who knew her.
The Patti Stapp Visionary Scholarship will be awarded during the annual Visionary Scholarship Brunch which is an exciting kick off to the Miss Texas competition week each year. Preference for this award will given to those who are active in Community Service and the winner will be decided upon by the Stapp Family. |
